Town of Coaldale celebrates grand opening of Civic Square

COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale’s new Civic Square building opened its doors on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

The building is the new home of the town office, council chambers, and several private businesses. Shovels hit the ground on the construction of the new building in June 2021, with a $2.8 million investment from the Town of Coaldale, along with funding from private sources.

Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn said, “In the process of making Civic Square become a reality, we have seen our community come together, hand-in-hand, united in a common goal. We have witnessed the strength that emerges when people set aside personal agendas and work towards a greater good.

He added, “We will come together to address the challenges we face as a community. We will engage in thoughtful dialogue, recognizing that every voice matters, and that by working together, we can find innovative solutions to the issues that affect us all.

In a release, the Town said the centre has cutting-edge technology to provide for a more engaging experience at council chambers and an atrium for community gatherings that has over 2,000 plants and photos from the town’s past.
