Jun 20, 2023 | 8:13 PM

OTTAWA, ON The RCMP has announced the winners of the 2023 Name the Foal contest.

Children aged 14 and younger across Canada, as well as classrooms, were invited to submit name ideas for 12 new RCMP foals, born at the breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario.

In total, over 3,100 entries were received, with more than 200 from schools. The RCMP noted a selection was also made from submissions received at the Musical Ride’s Open House in February.

Sgt. Major Scott Williamson, Riding Master of the RCMP Musical Ride said in a news release, “It was inspiring to go through all the submissions and see how thoughtful the kids were with their suggestions.”

“From Windsor and Wales, which pay tribute to our important connection with the Royal Family, to West, which reflects our early name of North-West Mounted Police. And, several selections pay tribute to the RCMP’s Honour Roll, with Worden, Wilde and Wynn, which were touching to receive.”

Below is the full list of winning entries, with the name of the child who submitted it:

  • Windsor – Gus, Yellowknife, NT
