LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) and Alberta Sheriffs have charged two impaired drivers and issued 54 tickets over this past weekend.

The tickets came as part of a weekend traffic enforcement project in the Lethbridge area that will continue throughout summer.

LPS said the initiative is aimed at providing safer roads by targeting impaired driving, speeding, excessive vehicle noise, racing, stunting and other illegal behaviours in areas throughout the city.

Members of the Traffic Response Unit will be present on roads in the area in highly visible vehicles to deter the driving violations.

A similar initiative was conducted in summer of 2022, and LPS said it resulted in a decrease of traffic complaints.
