Municipal census results released for Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The results of the 2023 municipal census in Lethbridge have been released.

The results show that Lethbridge has a population of 106,550, which represents an increase of 4.99 per cent, or 1.25 per cent year-over-year.

Lethbridge mayor Blaine Hyggen said, ““Lethbridge consistently demonstrates a sustainable and healthy rate of growth. This stability, as well as steady growth and retention, allows the City of Lethbridge to plan effectively for the future of our community.”

Lethbridge’s top eight neighborhoods by population growth compared to the 2019 census were:

8. Country Meadows: +286 people (53.8%)

7. Riverstone: +307 people, (9.4%)

6. Crossings: +347 people (61.6%)

5. Legacy Ridge: +367 people (12.4%)

4. Black Wolf: +785 people (79.5%)

3. Southbrook: +821 people (new neighborhood)

2. Copperwood: +897 people (16.6%)

1. Garry Station: +1,002 people (88.8%)

The presentation to council by City Clerk Bonnie Hilford showed that Lethbridge had a 100 per cent completion rate for the 2023 census. There were 44,095 dwellings in the city, with 2.42 residents per dwelling, a 4.8 per cent vacancy rate, and an average age of 39.

Positive growth was reported in all three areas of the city with West Lethbridge having an increase of 2,895 people, calculated at 7.08%. North Lethbridge had 1,276 new residents, for an increase of 4.53 per cent, and South Lethbridge saw 897 new people for an increase of 2.77 per cent.
