Eight people face child pornography offences following ALERT investigation
CALGARY, AB – Eight people face charges following an investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation unit.
Operation ICE Storm 5 was launched in April 2023. It focused on high-level targets that were allegedly sharing and distributing child sexual exploitation materials via peer-to-peer file sharing networks.
ALERT said that to date, nearly one million photos and videos have been identified. Over 35 computers and electronic devices were seized, according to officials, resulting in terabytes of data for forensic technicians to analyze. ALERT said investigators do not believe any of the victims are from Alberta, or that any hands-on offences had taken place.
The following individuals, all of Alberta, each face charges of possession of child pornography, access child pornography, and make available child pornography.
