LETHBRIDGE, AB – Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for many communities across the region.

The agency said temperatures are forecast to reach highs of 32 degrees Celsius with overnight lows of 16 degrees over the next three days.

Temperatures are expected to moderate on Sunday, July 1, 2023.

A few of the impacted areas in southern Alberta are Lethbridge, Taber, Medicine Hat, Milk River, Claresholm, High River, and Brooks.

The public is asked to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Some tips include:

  • Rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler times of the day
  • Taking frequent breaks from the heat
  • Drinking plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages
  • Not leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles

Environment Canada said to pay particular attention to children, seniors, and those with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated. They are particularly vulnerable to the effects of excess heat.
