LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Shoes for Kids initiative is returning to Lethbridge for the third year in a row.

The Shoes for Kids YQL shoe drive is set for Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Dunlop Ford.

The event aims to collect 350 pairs of new shoes this year and raise $20,000 to help purchase running shoes for children and youth in Lethbridge and the Kainai and Piikani reserves.

The initiative is spearheaded by Shoes for Kids YQL with assistance from RBC, the Lethbridge Police Service, Blood Tribe Police and the Piikani Nation RCMP. Taber RCMP has also teamed up to help the initiative in 2023.

Mallory Kristjanson, president of Shoes for Kids YQL, said, “For a lot of these kids, their whole life has been shoes being handed down to them. We want them to have that same dignity as their peers with a brand new pair of shoes for the school year, but we also expand our services throughout the whole year.”

The Lethbridge Police Service and Freddy’s Paint are accepting donations before the August 19 event, as is Blood Tribe Police. Cash donations can be made at any RBC branch in Lethbridge under the Shoes for Kids YQL account.
