LETHBRIDGE, AB – The 2023 CHL Import Draft has concluded, and the Lethbridge Hurricanes made one selection.

The two-round draft saw the picks divided up based off the order of standings in the CHL’s three leagues. The Hurricanes ended up with the 42nd and 102nd overall picks.

With the 42nd pick in the draft, the Hurricanes selected 2005-born centre Elias Knoester from the Malmo Redhawks J18 team in the J18 Nationell league in Sweden.

The 5’8″, 145-pound centre recorded 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 16 games at the J18 level. Knoester also appeared in 42 games at the J20 level, scoring nine goals and adding nine assists.

Knoester is the 37th player selected in the European draft by the Hurricanes in their history, and only the third Swedish player. He will be eligible for selection in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

The Hurricanes, like many other teams, passed on their second pick in the draft.
