Seven homes searched in Alberta, multiple firearms seized

EDMONTON, AB – Seven homes in Alberta were searched by police as part of a Canada-wide operation.

The investigation, named Project Reproduction, was led by Quebec’s integrated team against firearms trafficking, known as EILTA.

The Alberta searches were conducted by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).

Police noted that Project Reproduction targeted illicit firearms trafficking and manufacturing and saw seven homes in Alberta searched on June 21, 2023. The residences searched were in Grande Prairie, Penhold, Innisfail, Brooks, Lloydminster, and Lac Ste. Anne County.

ALERT said investigators seized:

  • 8 3D printers
  • 11 completed 3D-printed firearms
  • 45 incomplete 3D-printed firearms, including frames and receivers
  • 21 3D-printed firearms suppressors
  • 8 handguns
  • 72 long-barrel firearms
  • Thousands of rounds of ammunition

Several suspects have been identified by ALERT in connection to the searches, but no one has been charged as of this publication.

The Alberta searches were done in partnership with multiple RCMP detachments, the Edmonton Police Service, Medicine Hat Police Service and the Alberta Chief Firearms Office.

Nationally, Project Reproduction saw searches in eight provinces and 46 different municipalities, which police said resulted in the seizure of 440 firearms, including 71 3D-printed firearms and 62 handguns.
