Two charged following ongoing RCMP investigation in southern Alberta

RAYMNOND, AB – Two residents of Brooks face multiple charges following an RCMP investigation.

The RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) said in June 2023, it was engaged to help Brooks and Redcliff RCMP in investigating an ongoing property crime spree happening across southeastern Alberta. Police note that multiple vehicle were allegedly stolen during the spree.

On July 5, 2023. SAD CRY found a vehicle reported stolen at a rural property near Redcliff. Police said when they entered the location, the suspects drove a stolen truck through a fence. A search was later conducted on the property, which RCMP said resulted in the recovery of two stolen trucks, and three stolen trailers with an estimated value of $300,000.

Police added that during the investigation, a holiday trailer, reportedly stolen out of Dunmore, as well as an allegedly stolen truck from Taber, were recovered.

On July 11, SAD CRU, with the help of RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Air Services, RCMP Police Dog Services, and Brooks RCMP General Investigative Services, located and arrested two suspects near Raymond. Police allege the two suspects were in possession of a stolen holiday trailer, a stolen truck, and property reported stolen from two commercial break and enters in Redcliff.

Travis Douglas Seitz, 32, of Brooks, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Three counts of Fail to comply with probation order

Brooke Ashley Mintz, 28, of Brooks, faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Four counts of Fail to comply with probation order

The RCMP said that at the time of his arrest, Seitz was wanted on arrest warrants for similar offences out of Brooks, Taber, Medicine Hat, and Drumheller. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, he was remanded into custody and will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Taber on July 18, 2023, as well as in Lethbridge, Brooks and Medicine Hat on July 19, and Drumheller on July 21.

At the time of arrest, police said Mintz was serving a jail sentence in the community on a conditional sentence order as a result of criminal convictions of similar offences. After a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Mintz was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Lethbridge and Brooks on July 19.
