LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in connection with multiple cases of arson.

The LPS said on July 12, 2023, during the early afternoon, an unknown male lit a couch on fire behind a residence along the 1100 block of 19 Street South. A neighbour extinguished the fire. Police reported that on July 13, in the afternoon, the individual returned to the scene and lit the couch on fire again.

Officials said the second incident caused damage to a detached garage and fence and was extinguished by the fire department. The LPS canvassed the area and obtained a description of the suspect.

During the night of July 13, police responded to a report of a fire involving three waste bins in the alley along the 1800 block of 9 Avenue South.

The LPS said that video surveillance showed a man using an incendiary device to ignite the three bins and a wooden shelf before walking away eastbound down the alley.

Police said the man in the video matched the description of the suspect in the July 12 and 13 fires along the 1100 block of 19 Street South. Police are now looking for the suspect and are seeking assistance from the public in identifying him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the LPS at 403-328-4444 and reference file 23016488.
