Temporary closure announced for Pincher Creek Emergency Department

Jul 21, 2023 | 12:38 PM

PINCHER CREEK, AB – The Pincher Creek Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) is set to temporarily close over the weekend. Alberta Health Services (AHS) said this is due to a lack of physician coverage.

The ED will be closed overnight both on Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23, 2023:

  • Closed from 7:30 p.m. Saturday, reopening at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday
  • Closed from 7:30 p.m. Sunday, reopening at 7:30 a.m. on Monday

At 7:30 a.m. on Monday, July 24, the ED will reopen to 24-hour service.

AHS said during the temporary closure, nursing staff will stay on-site to provide care for inpatients, and physician support will be available by phone.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. Patients seeking care can access emergency services at the Cardston Health Centre, Crowsnest Pass Health Centre, Fort Mcleod Health Centre, or Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. Officials said EMS services are prepared to respond to emergencies and support inter-facility transfers to neighbouring sites.

Residents are asked to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency health-related questions. Those requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.
