CROWSNEST PASS, AB – The RCMP is urging drivers to be careful and patient as construction continues on Highway 3 in southwestern Alberta.

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, officers say they received a call from a road construction company that is currently doing road work in the Crowsnest Pass.

The company informed the RCMP that, on Tuesday, one of their flaggers was “feet away” from being struck by a vehicle carrying a holiday trailer speeding through the construction zone.

The RCMP said in a social media post that this type of behaviour is not acceptable.

“We are aware that construction during peak times can be frustrating but people that are working should not have to worry about if they are going to be able to go home after work,” said the RCMP. “Drivers need to be patient, follow road signs and pay attention to workers. Risky maneuvers to jump the traffic lines are also not acceptable.”

Officials warn that tickets will be issued to drivers who fail to obey the rules of the road and that fines for speeding in construction zones are doubled.

Crews are working to repave a 33 kilometre section of Highway 3 from the Alberta-B.C. border to the Pincher Station. Drivers have experienced delays in the area around Frank Slide in particular.
