Nominations sought for Farm Family Award

Jul 27, 2023 | 12:14 PM

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – Lethbridge County’s Agricultural Service Board (ASB) is asking for nominations from the public. Officials are hoping to find a deserving farm family who will receive recognition at next summer’s Calgary Stampede.

The BMO Bank of Montreal Farm Family Award is presented to farm families across Alberta every year. Officials noted that normally, Lethbridge County Council identifies the family to receive the award, but this year, the ASB is asking for the public’s help.

Chair of the ASB and councillor Klaas VanderVeen said, “As a productive and progressive agricultural hub in Alberta, Lethbridge County is home to a great number of extraordinary farming families.”

VanderVeen added, “We encourage the community to nominate those who exemplify what it means to be a farm family: dedication, hard work, and community-mindedness.”

To be eligible, farms must be located within Lethbridge County. The family must be active in primary agriculture and have members residing on the farm. Nominees should be actively involved in the community, in addition to making contributions to the agriculture industry.

Nominations can be submitted at the Lethbridge County website, or by calling the Agriculture Services department at 403-732-5333. Nominee names will be presented at the September 14, 2023 ASB meeting. The Board will select one family to receive the award for 2024.

The nomination deadline is 11:59 p.m. on August 27.
