Team Canada Roller Derby captures bronze at World Cup

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Team Canada’s Junior Roller Derby squad came away from the weekend with some hardware.

The 2023 Junior Roller Derby World Cup was held in Valence, France from Friday, July 28 to Sunday, July 30, 2023. Canada sent 35 athletes to the competition, with one all-female team and one open-gender team participating.

In the tournament, Canada’s female team captured the bronze medal, while the open-gender squad finished in fourth place.

Head coach Caroline “Meow” Reimer said, “A third and fourth place finish for this hybrid team of 35 kids who practiced twice before this weekend is outstanding.”

She added, “Our athletes did the work with the tools we gave them and we are so proud of this win.”

A total of nine teams competed for the top prize in each division, with competitors aged 12-18. The 2023 World Cup marked the first time the competition was held outside of North America.
