Medicine Hat man injured in shooting

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) is continuing to investigate a shooting that left one person injured.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 19th Street NE to investigate a weapons complaint.

The investigation determined that an unidentified person allegedly approached a person walking in the area, fired several shots at the person and then fled by foot.

A police K-9 unit was deployed, but was not able to locate the suspect.

A man was injured and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The MHPS said vehicles and fence lines were damaged during the incident.

Police say their investigation shows that this was likely a targeted attack, but there is no risk to the general public safety at this time.
