Medicine Hat man injured in shooting

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) is continuing to investigate a shooting that left one person injured.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 19th Street NE to investigate a weapons complaint.

The investigation determined that an unidentified person allegedly approached a person walking in the area, fired several shots at the person and then fled by foot.

A police K-9 unit was deployed, but was not able to locate the suspect.

A man was injured and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The MHPS said vehicles and fence lines were damaged during the incident.

Police say their investigation shows that this was likely a targeted attack, but there is no risk to the general public safety at this time.

The MHPS Major Crime Section will continue the investigation and is asking that anyone with information contact the MHPS at 403-529-8481 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 -222-8477 (TIPS).Tips may also be submitted through the Medicine Hat Police Service Mobile App on iOS and Android devices.
