Lethbridge News Now’s Facebook no longer available

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Meta’s action against Canadian news continues.

The parent company of Facebook and Instagram is blocking its Canadian users’ access to news content.

The move was made in response to the Government of Canada passing Bill C-18, the Online News Act, which sought to make companies like Meta and Google pay news organizations in the country for the content they post.

As of approximately 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Lethbridge News Now’s Facebook page is no longer available. When you try to access the page, a message comes up, saying, “This Page Isn’t Available Right Now.”

LNN’s Instagram page is currently up but is expected to be impacted soon as well.

The web traffic generated from LNN’s social media platforms makes up a significant revenue stream for our organization.
