Ambulatory care clinic in Picture Butte to permanently close

PICTURE BUTTE, AB – Alberta Health Services (AHS) is advising residents of Picture Butte that the community’s ambulatory care clinic is set to close permanently this fall.

The closure at the Piyami Health Centre is effective October 15, 2023.

AHS said in a notice that this is not expected to effect any other services at the location.

“Laboratory and diagnostic imaging, along with other AHS services, will still be available,” said AHS in a statement. “The ambulatory clinic is only a portion of the overall facility, which also includes seniors housing, supportive living, home care, allied health and public health.”

The ambulatory care clinic offers non-emergency care such as minor cuts or burns, sprains and simple fractures, sore throats, headaches, and earaches or ear infections.

The health authority said it has a contract with a local physician who manages, operates and hires staff at the clinic. They are working to recruit two new physicians to the community who can support primary care.

A community engagement session will be scheduled for sometime in mid-September in the community.
