Lethbridge Leftovers claim gold medal at Calgary Dragon Boat Festival

CALGARY, AB – A Lethbridge dragon boat team captured gold in Calgary over the weekend.

The Lethbridge Leftovers dragon boat team traveled up to Calgary to compete in the Sinopec Calgary Dragon Boat Festival from August 11 to 13, 2023. The festival brought in 53 mixed and ladies’ teams, coming from areas such as Edmonton to Montana.

The Leftovers had fourth and third place finishes in their two 200 metre qualification races on Saturday. Their average time of 56.34 seconds seeded them in the B Division for the Sunday 500 metre races.

In the Mixed B semi-finals, the team raced 500 metres in two minutes and 33.18 seconds, putting them in second place and punching their ticket to the Division B finals. In those finals, the Leftovers finished with a time of two minutes and 26.82 seconds to win the Canada China Association Cup and a Gold Medal.
