MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs proved to have too much bite for the Medicine Hat Mavericks to handle.

One night after suffering their first loss of the postseason, the Dawgs rebounded to beat the Mavericks 13-5 to capture the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) crown.

It is the Dawgs’ second straight title and third since 2019.

The Mavericks finished the regular season in second place in the Eastern Division. They got hot late in the season and rode that to the final series but ran out of steam in the end.

Thursday’s back-and-forth affair saw the Dawgs start of strong, going 5-0 in the opening innings. The Mavericks stormed back to tie it in the sixth.

Okotoks answered right back, putting up six of their own in the bottom of the inning, and added two more in the eighth to finish the scoring.

The Lethbridge Bulls were eliminated from the WCBL playoffs in the first round, falling to the Sylvan Lake Gulls.
