LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will have a new face on their coaching staff for the 2023-24 Western Hockey League (WHL) season.

The team announced on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 that long-time goaltending coach Kevin Swanson has resigned from his position.

Swanson was hired by the Hurricanes in 2017 and spent five seasons as the club’s goaltending coach, and helped develop Hurricanes netminders such as Stuart Skinner and Harrison Meneghin.

In a corresponding move, the Hurricanes announced the hiring of former WHL goaltender Brodan Salmond as the team’s new goaltending consultant. Salmond spent three years with the Kelowna Rockets before finishing his junior career with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the 2018-19 season.

He then spent four years with the University of Calgary Dinos, winning the 2023 USports Championship.

Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt said, “We’re really excited to add Brodan to the fold as a goaltending consultant. His recent experience playing both in the WHL and USports will be a huge advantage and we are excited to add him to our staff.”

In another announcement, the Hurricanes revealed Wednesday that 2003-born defenceman Nolan Bentham has decided to step away from the game of hockey and will not report to training camp, or the team, for the upcoming season. Bentham has spent the last three seasons in Lethbridge.

The Hurricanes begin their training camp on Thursday, August 31, before opening the pre-season on Tuesday, September 5.
