Stolen vehicles from Medicine Hat area recovered, two arrested

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Charges have been laid in connection to the alleged thefts of numerous vehicles in southern Alberta.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) said, on August 18, 2023, officers recovered a stolen motor home, two pickup trucks, and a cargo trailer at Kin Coulee Park in Medicine Hat and a rural property outside of the city.

The vehicles are estimated to be worth $140,000.

ALERT said the motor home had been reported stolen out of Brooks the previous day. Two suspects were identified and arrested.

A further investigation led officers to a rural property approximately 50 kilometres northwest of Medicine Hat, where the two pickup trucks were located. One had allegedly been stolen out of Medicine Hat, while the other was taken from Etzikom in the Country of Forty Mile.

ALERT Medicine Hat Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn said his team alone cannot make these types of arrests and property seizures, adding that collaboration with other law enforcement agencies is often necessary.

“Working with our policing partners across southeast Alberta, our specialized team is able to share criminal intelligence and target the most prolific property crime offenders,” said Thorburn. “In this case, we were able to locate the stolen motorhome and have it back to its rightful owners in a timely manner.”

ALERT’s investigation is ongoing and additional suspects are being pursued.
