Civil emergency cancelled in Cardston after gas leak resolved

CARDSTON, AB – The Town of Cardston has advised residents that they can return to their homes.

At 11:37 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, the town and Alberta Emergency Alert issued a civil emergency for the community due to a “dangerous gas leak.”

The gas leak occurred on 5 Avenue between 4 and 5 Street in Cardston. Residents within 330 metres of the area were ordered to evacuate while utility crews worked to fix the leak.

People in the impacted area were told to go to a reception centre at the West Stake Centre in the interim period.

At 1:22 a.m., repairs were completed and the civil emergency was called off.
