University of Lethbridge kicks off Fall 2023 semester

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge’s Fall 2023 semester is officially underway.

The semester kicked off with residence move-in this past weekend, where 960 students took up housing on the University of Lethbridge campus, including a record 100 international students.

The process continued with New Student Orientation on Tuesday, September 5, which included the following activities:

  • Pronghorn Athletics Pep Rally
  • Welcome address with President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Digvir Jayas
  • Keynote Speaker — Kacie Bosch (Faculty of Education student, Pronghorns women’s basketball alumna and coach)
  • Campus tours
  • Calm Café
  • Introductory sessions with various campus units
  • Indigenous Student Welcome
  • Mentor Meet-Up
  • So, you Want to be a Teacher?
  • All day Photo Booth
  • Student lunch
  • StartSmart@ULethbridge student quiz
  • Faculty meet-and-greet sessions throughout campus
  • International Student Welcome Dinner

Kathleen Massey, vice-provost (students), said, “New Student Orientation really sets the stage for our beginning students, and we spend a lot of time making sure we are meeting the needs of each incoming class.”

In addition, the University has launched StartSmart@ULethbridge, a three-year initiative to help new undergraduate students achieve their academic goals and increase first-year student retention.

Undergraduate students were invited to complete a university readiness self-assessment called the StartSmart Quiz, and the results were collected by the school.

Internation Student Orientation takes place on Wednesday, September 6.
