CROWSNEST PASS, AB – Lethbridge College’s new mobile lab has been launched.

The college, in collaboration with the Livingstone Range School Division (LRSD), unveiled the 27-foot mobile environmental science lab on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

The introduction of the lab was held at PEAKS Campus in the Crowsnest Pass, which is LRSD’s place-based learning centre.

Chad Kuzyk, Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Innovation for LRSD, said, “This lab will used by Grade seven to 12 students all across our Division in a variety of ecological spaces perfect for environmental science programming.”

He added, “Students will be able to conduct industry-standard studies in their local areas, collecting valuable data while earning credits toward high school graduation and post-secondary.”

The lab came out of a $100,000 grant from the Alberta Education Dual Credit Enhancement Fund, and was built over a period of ten months.

The mobile unit has multiple features including binoculars, spotting scopes, weather gear and safety kits, among others. It will be open all four seasons and aims to “increase the relevancy of the environmental science program of study.”
