COALDALE, AB – Members of Coaldale Town Council were joined by Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter and Lethbridge MP Rachael Thomas to officially break ground on Phase 3 of the town’s Civic Square project on September 11, 2023.

Phase 3 of the project will be situated on what is now vacant land behind Civic Square.

Funded partially by the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), phase three is a multi-purpose recreational and economic development in the heart of downtown Coaldale, which will serve as a year-round gathering place for the community.

Once complete, the space will feature natural gas fire pits, picnic tables, a concession, public bathrooms, and a large concrete area for events like festivals and farmers markets. It will also have refrigerant lines to turn it into a fully-functional skating rink in the colder months.

Town of Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn shared his vision of the project, saying, “For over a year, our council has been reviewing detailed designs of the space and we’re confident that, once completed, this space will not only become a year-round community living room for our residents, but also, put downtown Coaldale on the map.”

Once the outdoor portion of the project is complete, the Town will turn its attention to the final portion of the development, which will see the creation of up to 10,000 square feet of additional commercial space along Coaldale’s Main Street.
