LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge College graduate has been named a recipient of a lucrative scholarship.

Tristen Brown, a 2018 graduate of the Civil Engineering Technology program, has been named one of 166 winners of the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (VCGS).

The scholarships, 55 of which are given by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), are each valued at $50,000 a year for three years.

They are awarded to graduate students in Canada who demonstrate leadership skills, research potential and academic excellence in their studies.

Following his graduation from Lethbridge College, Brown began attending Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2020, and his master’s degree in 2022.

Brown is currently working to complete his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. After graduating from Lethbridge College, his work has been centered around wind and structural engineering, and his doctoral research focuses on innovative solutions to modular homes for Indigenous communities throughout Canada.

Brown said, “This scholarship will help me push my research topic to many communities throughout Canada by implementing a strategic housing solution.”

He elaborated further, “This can be completed by travelling and communicating to many of the communities throughout Canada that are in need of a housing solution.”

The VGCS was launched by the Government of Canada in 2008 to bring in and retain doctoral candidates across the country.

Information on the scholarship can be found at the Government of Canada website.
