CALGARY, AB — A wind power project in Cypress County is one of 12 Alberta-based clean energy projects that will benefit from federal funding.

The Renewable Energy Systems Canada Hilda wind power project is supported by a federal investment of over $17.5 million. It will add 105.4 megawatts of wind energy in Cypress County, expected to supply enough clean energy to power 32,000 households.

Four wind farm sites near Jenner were also included in the federal government investment.

Capstone Infrastructure Corporation, a partnership with Sawridge First Nation, is developing Buffalo Atlee on four farm sites near Jenner.

These four projects will be supported by a combined $60 million federal investment and are expected to produce over 200,000 megawatt-hours per year.

That’s enough to supply power to over 26,000 Alberta homes every year.

In total, the 12 Alberta projects will reduce emissions equal to taking nearly 325,000 gas-powered cars off the road every year.

A full list of funded projects is available at the Government of Canada website.
