LETHBRIDGE, AB – Former Lethbridge Hurricanes defenceman Calen Addison has re-signed with the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild.

The Wild announced on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 that they had re-signed Addison to a one-year contract worth $825,000. Addison was a restricted free agent after completing his entry-level contract.

The 23-year-old blueliner spent his first full season with Minnesota in 2022-23. He put up three goals and had 26 assists over the course of 63 games. That put him second on the team in points by a defenceman, behind Wild captain Jared Spurgeon.

Addison has five goals and 33 points in 80 career games with Minnesota.

Before his time in the NHL, Addison spent parts of five seasons with the Hurricanes, establishing himself as a bright young star in the Western Hockey League (WHL). In 252 career games with Lethbridge, Addison scored 41 goals and added 174 assists for 215 points.

He then turned up his production further in the 2018 and 2019 playoffs. In 2018, he had seven goals and 19 points in 16 contests, and put up two goals and nine points in seven games the next postseason.

Addison was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft with the 53rd overall pick.

His brief tenure with the Penguins ended in February of 2020 when he was traded, along with Alex Galchenyuk and a first round draft pick, to the Wild for forward Jason Zucker.

Addison also represented Canada at the 2020 World Juniors in Czechia, registering a goal and nine points in seven games en route to a gold medal.
