Lethbridge News Now launches free newsletter to help residents stay informed

Sep 20, 2023 | 1:49 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The landscape of news delivery is changing in Canada, particularly when it comes to social media. As you’ve likely noticed over the last several weeks, our news portal Lethbridge News Now is no longer available for Canadian users on Facebook and Instagram.

The move is in response to Bill C-18, or the Online News Act, that would have META, the parent company of Facebook/Instagram, and other tech giants like Google pay a fee to post and share Canadian media stories on their platform. As a sign of opposition to the Act, META is hiding Canadian news outlets from social media feeds while Google is promising to follow suit – which could mean local news stories will not show up in your search results.

We are committed to delivering content that matters to our communities.

So, in an effort to ensure everyone always has easy and free access to local news coverage, Lethbridge News Now has launched a daily newsletter. The subscription is FREE and you’ll receive links to our top, local news stories every night delivered directly to your email inbox.

You can sign up for our free daily newsletter here.

Please be sure to share this story or link with your friends and family. We also encourage you to head directly to LethbridgeNewsNow.com, bookmark our site, sign up for notifications and download our free news app, available for Apple and Android devices.
