City of Lethbridge introduces Community Play Boxes

Sep 22, 2023 | 11:09 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge Parks & Cemeteries team is introducing Community Play Boxes.

Officials say the boxes are filled with sports equipment for any community member to use for free.

There are currently two boxes, one located at Legacy Park near the pickleball courts, and Nicholas Sheran Park near the west parking lot.

The goal of these boxes is to encourage community members to take part in more outdoor activities, while removing the barrier of needing to purchase equipment.

Parks & Cemeteries General Manager Blair Richter said, “The Community play boxes are a great way to promote unstructured play for all ages.”

Richter continued, “The initiative was sparked by the success of the DowntownBox introduced by Downtown Lethbridge BRZ earlier this year. We hope the play boxes encourage more outdoor activities and free play.”

The boxes will be accessible year-round, and the contents will change according to the season.
