Hurricanes best Broncos 5-2 in Swift Current

SWIFT CURRENT, SK – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are 2-0 to start the 2023-24 season after a 5-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

Coming off a a 3-1 win over the Broncos on home ice on Friday, the Hurricanes traveled to Swift Current to play the second game of the home-and-home slate the following night.

After a scoreless first period, the Hurricanes struck quickly to begin the second, with Logan Wormald scoring his second goal of the season just 24 seconds into the frame. A little over three minutes later, Tyson Zimmer scored to make it 2-0.

The Broncos cut the lead in half at the 12:36 mark of the second with a goal from Van Eger, but Hurricanes winger Trae Wilke quickly responded with first of the season just 41 seconds later, which ended up as the game winner.

Swift Current scored to make it 3-2 in the third period, but their chances at a comeback were snuffed out by two goals from Brayden Edwards, the second of which came on an empty net.

Harrison Meneghin was sturdy again for the Hurricanes, stopping 24 shots in his second victory of the season. The second-year netminder has a .955 save percentage through the first two games.

The Hurricanes will have the week to rest, and prepare for a two game set in Edmonton against the Oil Kings on Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30.
