LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has announced a couple of changes to the Lethbridge Transit service and how users can interact with it.

As of October 1, 2023, the city said its cityLINK Ride-On-Demand (ROD) service will exit its pilot phase and will become a permanent part of the bussing system. During the pilot period, fares on the ROD service were offered free of charge.

As of next week, however, riders will have to pay for the service.

The ROD service provides service to areas in the city where fixed bus routes are not available and connects them to those fixed routes.

To coincide with the ROD service requiring payment, the municipality said the current Breeze Cards will no longer be accepted as of October 2, 2023. Instead, riders will have to transition to the newer LT Fare card or app.

The app can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android devices, but as of Oct. 2, it will cost $5 to pick up a card Lethbridge City Hall, the Park ‘n’ Ride transit terminal, or other select locations.

Through LT Fare, users can buy bus fares anytime, anywhere and use tap-to-pay technology to purchase a single fare. Other payment methods such as debit and credit cards, mobile pay, and cash will continue to be accepted.
