Sayers will serve a term in the position until February 2025. He has served as a member of LDE’s Board of Director since 2015.

In a news release, Sayers stated, “I have had a long history of working with Lethbridge & District Exhibition, so I am proud to take on the role of President.”

He added, “This organization is growing and changing, which makes me excited for the future and all we will be able to accomplish.”

Sayers has strong ties to southern Alberta. Along with his wife Pat, he founded Maple Ridge Floors in 1987 and has been the company’s president since its formation. For three decades, Sayers has also been involved with 4-H, holding a variety of roles at the club, district, regional and provincial levels. In 2018, he was inducted into the 4-H Alberta Hall of Fame.

In addition to his work with Maple Ridge Floors, Sayers is currently a councillor for Lethbridge County and has been the long-time Lethbridge delegate for UFA, working on different committees.

He has held roles with McKillop United Church, Coaldale & District Agricultural Society, as well as different minor sports organizations.

Mike Warkentin, CEO of LDE said, “Mark has been a strong advocate for Lethbridge & District Exhibition both during his time on the Board of Directors, and before that given his strong ties to 4-H.”

Warkentin continued, “With the opening of the Agri-food Hub & Trade Centre, LDE is leading the way in what it means to be an agricultural society in the present day and Mark brings experiences and knowledge that will lead us forward in that pursuit.”

He continued, “He [Sayers] will play an important role in keeping our roots firmly planted in agriculture, and ensuring we keep it as a key priority going forward.”

The president and other executive positions on the LDE Board of Directors are elected by members of the board. The board members, meanwhile, are elected by LDE shareholders.

More information is available at the LDE website.
