Taber Police warns of mail-out scam letters

Sep 29, 2023 | 6:54 AM

TABER, AB – The Taber Police Service (TPS) said fraudulent letters are being dispersed throughout the community.

Chief Graham Abela noted on the TPS Facebook page on Thursday, September 28, 2023, that envelopes with no return address are being sent out to homes and businesses through the mail.

“I received one myself,” said Abela.

The envelope reportedly contains a letter from a foreign lawyer. The letter will claim that you have a rich unknown relative that left money for you in their will and that you will need to contact them in order to claim your inheritance.

Abela noted that “This is also occurring online through spam email, but it is unusual to be mailed to a physical address.”

He asked the public to speak with their friends and family to ensure they do not fall victim to scams by organized criminals who wish to take advantage of you.
