LETHBRIDGE, AB – Development is underway on a new designated outdoor space at the library in downtown Lethbridge.

The Lethbridge Public Library said the space at its Main Branch will be a multi-purpose area for all ages with recreation elements. The space will also incorporate Indigenous knowledge.

The outdoor space will be adjacent to the parking lot/children’s entrance and will incorporate the existing Millennium Garden. Elements that will be featured in the space include:

  • Seating
  • Programming equipment that officials said will “inspire creativity, imagination, sensory, active and quiet play through music, art, building, adventure, nature and science-based activities”
  • Garden containers with plants native to the area
  • Tables for activities
  • Locally-created art
  • Informational panels

Terra Plato, CEO of the Lethbridge Public Library said, “The development and re-activation of this space, designed to offer a different type of outdoor play space, will support downtown revitalization efforts by attracting people to the Library’s Main Branch.”

“It remains our utmost priority to provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive space for all members of our community to enjoy.”
