Milk River Health Centre Emergency Department set for temporary closure

Oct 4, 2023 | 9:22 PM

MILK RIVER, AB – The Milk River Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) is set to be temporarily closed this week. Alberta Health Services (AHS) said the closure is due to a lack of physician coverage.

The ED will be closed starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, and is set to reopen at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 6.

During the temporary closure, nursing staff will stay on-site to provide care for long-term care residents. Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

EMS calls will be rerouted to the Raymond Health Centre (about 60 kilometres away) or Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is about 87 kilometres away. Patients seeking care can access services at the Raymond Health Centre or Chinook Regional Hospital.

Additionally, residents are reminded to call Health Link 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Those requiring non-emergency medical care can also call their family doctor.
