Oct 5, 2023 | 8:15 AM

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – Residents of Lethbridge County are advised that some burning activities are once again allowed.

The municipality has lifted its fire restriction as it said the risk of wildfires has decreased due to cooler temperatures and recent precipitation.

Fire permits are once again being issued for most burning activities. According to an advisory from Lethbridge County, permit holders can burn the following items:

  • Paper products
  • Untreated wood (wood or wood products that do not contain preservatives)
  • Yard waste (grass/tree clippings, leaves, branches, fallen trees, brush, weeds, etc.)
  • Straw and stubble

These items cannot be burned at any time, even with a fire permit:

  • Wood or wood products that contain preservatives
  • Plastic (including silage plastic, grain bags, and baler twine, but these can be recycled at the Iron Springs Transfer Station)
  • Rubber (including tires)
  • Animal manure or cadavers
  • Waste material from construction sites (only untreated wood is permitted)
  • Pathological waste
  • Containers that have held chemicals or pesticides
  • Oil

Permits can be obtained online on the Lethbridge County website, iOS or Google Play mobile app, or in-person at the Lethbridge administration office at #100 905 4 Avenue South.

Anyone who is unsure if their burning activities will require a permit is asked to visit the County’s website or phone 403-328-5525.
