EDMONTON, AB – Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, the Alberta RCMP said it issued more than 2,000 tickets as part of the #OperationImpact2023 initiative.

This is an annual effort organized by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, which focuses on encouraging safety on Canadian roads.

The following tickets were issued;

  • 55 tickets for distracted driving
  • 40 tickets for seat belt infractions
  • 15 tickets for liquor offenses
  • 902 tickets for speeding.

Of all the speeding tickets, 12 were in excess of 50 km/h, and one was issued for a driver traveling 185 km/h.

Immediate roadside sanctions were issued to 86 drivers found to be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol, resulting in driving suspensions and vehicle seizures.

Evansburg RCMP partnered with Alberta Fish and Wildlife, Parkland County, and Alberta RCMP Traffic to conduct a check stop on October 6 to ensure that Albertans were complying with traffic safety rules.

The Evansburg checkpoint stopped around 700 vehicles. While only one motorist was under the influence, Evansburg RCMP did find drivers in possession of illegal drugs, illegal cigarettes, and several motorists driving without proper insurance or vehicle registration.
