LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have announced a roster change.

The Western Hockey League (WHL) club has traded forward Hayden Smith to the Everrett Silvertips. In exchange, the Hurricanes are set to receive an eighth-round pick in the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft.

The 2004-born Smith was acquired by the Hurricanes during the 2021-22 season from the Saskatoon Blades. The skater from Chetwynd, British Columbia appeared in 105 regular season games with Lethbridge over parts of three seasons. He totaled 28 points (16 goals, 12 assists), along with 27 penalty minutes. In 68 games during the 2022-23 season, Smith marked a career high with 14 goals and 21 points. He also appeared in five post-season games with Lethbridge, scoring one goal.

Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt said, “Hayden was a really hard worker and a good soldier for us in his time with the Hurricanes.”

Anholt added, “He brought a lot to our young group the last couple of years, and we’d like to wish him nothing but the best moving forward in Everett with the Silvertips.”

With this move, the Hurricanes have a 23-person roster as of Thursday, October 12, 2023.

Lethbridge is set to visit Moose Jaw on Friday, October 13.
