LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s basketball team has brought in a familiar face.

Jocelyn Neilson, a power forward from Lethbridge, has committed to the Kodiaks for the 2023-24 season. Neilson previously played for the team in the 2018-19 season, winning the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) women’s basketball South Division Rookie of the Year award.

Neilson stepped away from the sport to focus on personal endeavours, but is returning for this season, enrolling in Open Studies for the fall semester, and beginning her Carpenter Apprenticeship in the winter semester.

Kodiaks head coach Ken McMurray praised Neilson’s athleticism. He said, “Jocelyn is a very athletically gifted athlete, and she uses this athleticism to crash the boards, block shots and run the floor.”

Neilson has some familiarity with the team, as assistant coach Deanna Simpson was her head coach in the 2018-19 season. Neilson said she is ready and excited to get back on the court and with the team.

She elaborated, “I have always loved the atmosphere of a good team dynamic and craved the opportunity to step on the court again.”

The Kodiaks will face the Ambrose University Lions in their home opener on October 20, 2023 at 6 p.m. in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
