NDP Holding Its Own Meetings

First telephone town hall to take place regarding proposed Alberta Pension Plan

Premier Danielle Smith and the Opposition N-D-P are squaring off on the best way to find out from Albertans about whether they want to quit the Canada Pension Plan.

A government-commissioned panel gauging public opinion on leaving the C-P-P has announced five telephone town halls over the next six weeks.

They have not announced in-person town halls.

Smith says just three-thousand Albertans were able to make it to 10 town halls a few years ago for the Fair Deal panel.

She says people are busy, the town halls can be difficult to get to, and phone town halls allow for more people to speak out.

The N-D-P is holding its own meetings on the pension issue — including in-person get-togethers — and says something this big needs to be discussed face-to-face.
