LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge man known for philanthropy continues to give two years after his passing.

Officials with the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (CRHF) confirmed that they have received a significant donation from the estate of Cor Van Raay.

Executive Director Allan Batrolcic said he is unable to disclose the amount of money, but states that it will go a long way in aiding programming at the hospital.

“It’s dedicated for and specifically-requested for the cardiac services area within the hospital. We’re very proud and excited to have received this and [we] couldn’t be much more thankful to Cor and Cor’s estate.” said Bartolcic.

He adds that Van Raay had always been an avid supporter of the CRHF and that he looked forward to seeing Van Raay participating in the annual Christmas Tree Festival every year.

Bartolcic said Van Raay has given tens of thousands of dollars to the CRHF over the years.

Van Raay died on July 29, 2021, at the age of 85. Throughout his life, he had given millions of dollars to local causes, including $1 million to the LINK Pathway connecting Lethbridge and Coaldale and $100,000 to the Interfaith Food Bank in 2020.

His $3.75 million contribution to the development of the new YMCA facility in west Lethbridge was so significant that the facility was named after him.
