LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have claimed a player from Quebec on waivers.

Swiss-born forward Leo Braillard was put on waivers by the Shawinigan Cataractes, leaving him free to be claimed by all other Canadian Hockey League (CHL) teams. Braillard was the Cataractes first-round selection in the 2022 CHL Import Draft.

The 18-year-old is in his second CHL season, and has put up two goals and two assists in seven games for the Cataractes this year. In 48 total games in Shawinigan, Braillard has 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points.

The 5’10, 172-pound forward appeared in 16 games with the Biel-Bienne U20-Elit team in Switzerland collecting 19 points in the 2022-23 season before making his way to Canada.

After claiming Braillard, the Hurricanes have two import players on the roster, with the other being fellow 2005-born forward Elias Knoester.

The Hurricanes next take on the Red Deer Rebels on home ice on Friday, October 20, 2023. They will then head up to Calgary to face off against the Hitmen on Sunday, October 22.
