CALGARY, AB – Despite leading into the third period, the Lethbridge Hurricanes fell 4-3 to the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

In the first period, the Hitmen jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 6:29 mark of the first period with a goal by Oliver Tulk against Brady Smith. Tulk’s goal stood as the only one of the first period.

The Hurricanes turned up the goal scoring in the second period. Their three-goal frame was kicked off by Logan McCutcheon’s third goal of the season just under six minutes in on the powerplay. McCutcheon’s tally was assisted by Leo Braillard and Brayden Edwards.

Just under three minutes later, the Hurricanes would add another goal on the man advantage, this time scored by Tyson Zimmer and assisted by Noah Chadwick and Trae Wilke.

Dustin Renas would score his own goal at the 11:21 mark to make the game 3-1. Braillard added another assist on Renas’ goal, giving him four assists in his first two games as a Hurricane.

However, the third period would not go in favour of the Hurricanes. Hitmen forward Sean Tschigerl scored just over five minutes into the third to make it 3-2, and Carson Wetsch would tie the game with just below half of the period left.

In the final minute of regulation, Hurricanes forward Kooper Gizowski was given a hooking penalty, and the Hitmen’s star defenseman Carter Yakemchuk scored the dagger with just 25 seconds left in the period.

The Hurricanes will look to shake off the loss when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds at the ENMAX Centre on Wednesday, October 25.

The Hurricanes and Hitmen will then play their rematch on Friday, October 27 in Lethbridge.
