Three killed in collision near Brooks

BROOKS, AB – Three people are dead and several others injured following a collision in southern Alberta.

The Brooks RCMP said it responded to a fatal collision at 4:38 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023.

The collision occurred on Highway 1 near Township Road 164 in the County of Newell, south of Brooks.

The initial investigation by the RCMP suggests that a sedan had exceeded the speed limit, crossed the meridian, and collided with a pickup truck.

At the time that the RCMP had arrived on scene, members of the Brooks EMS and the Tilley Fire Department were already assisting those involved.

All three occupants of the sedan were pronounced deceased on scene, including a 37-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both of Medicine Hat, as well as a 33-year-old man from Redcliff.

The six occupants of the pickup truck received medical attention for varying degrees of injuries, although the RCMP said none of which were considered to be life-threatening.

Officers are continuing to investigate.
