Oct 24, 2023 | 8:55 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) holiday tradition is set to return to Lethbridge.

The CPKC Holiday Train (formerly known as the CP Holiday Train) tours North America to raise awareness, funds and collect donations for local food banks. In addition to the brightly-coloured train cars, the tour features musical performances from different artists. Performers for 2023 include Kiesza, Dallas Smith, Tyler Shaw, Virginia to Vegas, Grande Prairie’s Tenille Townes, and Medicine Hat’s MacKenzie Porter, among others.

This year, the two trains, which make stops in both Canada and the United States, will operate from November 21 to December 19, 2023.

The Canadian train will make stops in southern Alberta, including in Lethbridge on December 11. In 2022, Lethbridge was not included on the brightly-lit train’s tour schedule.

The train will stop at 2 Avenue N. and 12 Street behind the Save-On-Foods and feature performances by Tyler Shaw and Kiesza. Earlier that day, the holiday train will make a stop in Vulcan.

On December 12, the train will stop in Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek, and Coleman before crossing the border into British Columbia. The full Canadian train schedule is available online.

Meanwhile, the U.S. train has stops scheduled in southern Alberta as well, including in Medicine Hat on December 19. This stop will have a performance by Dallas Smith and MacKenzie Porter. The schedule for the U.S. train is also available online.

Since its debut in 1999, the CPKC Holiday Train has raised over $22.5 million and collected more than 5-million pounds of food for food banks across North America.

CPKC is headquartered in Calgary. The company resulted from a merger in April 2023 between Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS).
