LETHBRIDGE, AB – The National Hockey League (NHL) has released its ‘Preliminary Players to Watch’ list, and five Lethbridge Hurricanes are included.

NHL Central Scouting identifies players with a rating system that includes five categories ahead of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

The ‘A’ category indicates players projected to be first-round candidates, the ‘B’ rating is for players projected to be second or third round candidates, and the ‘C’ rating indicates players projected to be fourth or fifth round candidates.

New to this year’s list are the ‘W’ and ‘LV’ categories, which are for fifth or sixth round players and players who have not had sufficient viewings, respectively.

Two Lethbridge Hurricanes have been put into the ‘C’ category, Miguel Marques and Landen Ward.

Marques is in his second full season with the Hurricanes, and has put up four goals and nine assists for 13 points in as many games, which leads the Hurricanes.

Ward is in his rookie season with the team, and has four points on the season so far. He spent last season with the Lloydminster Bobcats U18 AAA team, where he put up 15 points in 24 games as a 16-year-old.

The ‘W’ category included a Hurricanes forward, defenceman and goaltender.

The forward was Trae Wilke who, like Marques, is in his second season with the team. Wilke has exceeded his point total from last year in just 13 games with eight points, after having seven in 35 games last season.

Tristen Doyle is the Hurricanes defenceman highlighted by the Central Scouting list. The Bonnyville native has been a fixture on the team’s top pair, and has four assists on the season.

Finally, Hurricanes netminder Harrison Meneghin has been recognized on the list, thanks to his stellar play this season. The 19-year-old has a 2.04 goals against average and a .937 save percentage this season, and has started 11 of his team’s 13 games.

In addition to the Hurricanes players, a Lethbridge local has also been named to the roster.

Prince George Cougars forward Terik Parascak, who is from Lethbridge, is listed as a ‘B’ category player. Paraschuk currently sits third in the WHL in scoring, behind only teammates Ondrej Becher and Zac Funk. Paraschuk has 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points in 12 games for the first-place Cougars.

In total, 63 WHL players were named to the list.
