Tributes pour in for late actor Matthew Perry

LOS ANGELES – One of the stars of the beloved sitcom ‘Friends’ has passed away.

Matthew Perry, known for his portrayal of the character Chandler Bing, died on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at his Los Angeles home at the age of 54.

According to unnamed sources cited by the Los Angeles Times and TMZ, Perry’s body was found in a hot tub at his home.

In addition to his 10 seasons on ‘Friends’, the American-Canadian actor also starred in several films including ‘The Whole Nine Yards’ and ‘The Whole Ten Yards’ alongside Bruce Willis, and ’17 Again’, portraying the older version of Zac Efron’s character Mike O’Donnell. Following his run on ‘Friends’, Perry starred in multiple short-lived series, such as ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’, ‘Mr. Sunshine’, and ‘Go On’.

He was last seen in the HBO Max ‘Friends: The Reunion”, where he appeared alongside his fellow ‘Friends’ castmates to discuss their time on the show and its cultural impact.

Over the course of his career, Perry was nominated for a Golden Globe and received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

The late performer struggled with addiction throughout his life and was open about his struggles. In 2022, he released his memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir’.

Since news of Perry’s passing was announced, multiple people have shared tributes to the popular star, including his former school classmate, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts but mostly grew up in Ottawa, Ontario.

Others who have shared tributes include Morgan Fairchild, who portrayed Chandler Bing’s mother on ‘Friends’, Maggie Wheeler, who played a Janice, one of Bing’s live interests, Canadian comedian and actor Tom Green, and musician Adele, who paid tribute to Perry at a concert Saturday night.

An investigation into how the actor died is ongoing.
