End of Daylight Saving Time a prime opportunity to check smoke, carbon monoxide detectors

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Daylight Saving Time comes to an end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Clocks will be moved back one hour. Citizens will certainly enjoy an extra hour to their weekend, but the time change is also a good opportunity to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Additionally, Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services said residents should change their furnace filters.

The expiry date of detectors should be reviewed annually, and officials said putting in fresh batteries is an important step to ensure the devices are working properly.

If a smoke detector is more than 10 years old, it will need to be replaced.

Neil Jesse, Fire Prevention Officer remarked that, “it’s always good to refresh your safety equipment within your house”, especially as the winter holiday season approaches.

More information about smoke detectors is available from the Canada Safety Council.
